Thomas Johnson MANAGING DIRECTOR
Thomas Johnson, known as Tommy - Built his first boat a 14ft sailing dinghy
before he was a teenager and after racing in a Shearwater Catamaran was converted
to being a multihull owner.
In 1979 he formed CISL, an industrial company in the energy sector. As a world class competitor they offer specialized services to the petrochemical and LNG construction and offshore production facilities.
The
strength of this company combined with the background of strong project management,
handling from procurement, shipping, logistics, warehousing and transport to
fabrication, erecting, documentation, project management, quality control,
HSE, and environment has provided a string base for the formation of our marine
division ... CISL Marine
CISL's Profile
After purchasing and rebuilding several small boats, both sail and power,
in 1990 Tommy purchased a derelict Prout Snogoose 34. He did a design improvement
of the structure and a complete re design of the interior. After getting
the nod of approval from Prout in UK a small project team was set up. The boat
was completly gutted, every fitting, wire, window and piece of wood was removed.
The only things that were reused were the hull the mast (not the rigging) and
the stove!
It was out of this successful project that the idea of a marine construction division arose.
Meanwhile Tommy was attending anything that involved Multihulls - after several symposiums and boat shows had met all the major multihull designers and learnt the technical aspects of the various designs.
It was this that determined the Multihull product that CISL would build.

Jeffrey Chen PROJECT MANAGER
Jeffrey has been a keen racing sailor since school days. After graduating
from the University of Texas with a Masters degree in Geology he worked for
the Institute of Marine Affairs based in Trinidad.
For the past eight years Jeffrey has not only raced throughout the Caribbean but has been involved at the organisation level, he is the senior measurer of the Caribbean Sailing Association.
Jeffrey’s extensive experience with heavy weather sailing combined with his USA training - Amongst other things he is a graduate of ABARIS Composite Training Facility of Nevada - has led to a no-nonsense approach with our construction.
Trinidad
The ideal place to build a power catamaran
Trinidad is a highly industralised island boasting of a huge Energy sector
and is the largest supplier of LNG to the USA. It is also the largest exporter
of Methanol and Ammonia in the world. The development of this huge energy construction
base has ensured highly trained labour and virtually all the services required
in the marine sector.
At 10.5 deg. North Latitude, Trinidad lies south of the hurricane belt. Its warm tropical climate allows year-round-construction with economically priced skilled labour, set in a mature marine industry. With daily flights of only 3.5 hours flying time from Florida and with weekly shipping from major US ports and Europe freight is both available and cheap.
Our Catamarans can be imported into the US duty free under the CBI.
Currently located at San Fernando Yacht Club, we presently have 10,000sq.ft. of covered fabrication space inclusive of painting and woodwork shops, with access to a 60ft. wide slipway on the Gulf of Paria.
